Background

When 70-metre M/Y JOY’s owner commissioned the yacht’s creation, his brief was simple. “Create something totally different to every other yacht”.

To achieve this not insignificant challenge a distinguished team was assembled to create this one of a kind vessel. Launched in 2016, JOY is a yacht of many firsts, including the first exterior by famed superyacht interior design house Bannenberg & Rowell, the first superyacht interior by Studio Indigo, and also the first superyacht for her visionary owner. Build work was masterfully executed by world-renowned shipyard Feadship.

A strong collaborative approach between all involved in JOY’s creation resulted in a yacht that was truly unique and special. The perfect blend of comfortable modernism and striking design JOY boasts five light-filled decks with unrivalled expansive outdoor spaces. Her designers applied elegant sculpted lines and an imaginative use of glass to build a yacht with true synergy between the indoors and outdoors.

Exterior

The brief to create a totally unique yacht is immediately evident in JOY’s sculpted superstructure, which blends concave shapes and scalloped forms with expanses of glass to create a sleek, textured profile that stands out from her peers.

Her design is defined by huge outdoor spaces that perfectly capture the charm of outdoor living. Generous wide walkways around the yacht, unseen on other yachts her size, hark back to the promenade decks of the golden days of yachting.

JOY’s extended foredeck doubles as a games court and links directly with the master cabin thanks to floor to ceiling windows that seamlessly connect both spaces.

All exterior spaces have been designed to be extremely versatile, and all three aft decks can be enclosed with full-height sliding glass panels creating winter gardens on the main, owner and bridge decks aft, increasing the volume and creating havens even in inclement weather

Interior Design

Inside, Studio Indigo was responsible for JOY’s vibrant interior that includes an extremely flexible cabin layout for up to 12 guests in seven cabins. A centrally located cantilevered timber spiral staircase that wraps around a glass elevator connects each deck and sets the tone, providing a reference point for guests no matter where they are on the yacht.

The meticulous planning of every detail to create a rich palette of colour and luxurious styling has been achieved by commissioning each piece of furniture, cushion, artwork and accessory, creating memorable spaces throughout the yacht. The result is a showcase of some of the best craftsmanship and yacht workmanship available.

ACCOMMODATION

JOY’s accommodation layout is extremely versatile and is easily tailored to suit groups of all sizes. She is able to welcome up to 12 guests in seven beautifully styled cabins, including the show stopping master suite which boasts 270-degree views and direct access onto the owner’s private terrace, 1 VIP stateroom, 4 double cabins and 1 twin cabin. Each cabin has its own identity and feel, providing living spaces with their own personality. Family groups will appreciate the main deck layout with the Master and two double cabins amidships, which provides the perfect set up for families with children.

JOY is capable of carrying up to 19 crew onboard to ensure the ultimate luxury yacht experience
