Lawrence leads an energetic lifestyle that mirrors his affinity for the outdoors. Whether casting lines into the water for a prized catch, cycling through scenic landscapes, engaging in the rigor of rugby, or taking to the skies flying, he embraces a dynamic range of activities. Ben Struge

Windsor, United Kingdom

​​Ben grew up in the south of England and spent the majority of his youth with a rugby ball in hand with dreams and aspirations of playing professionally. His ​​playing career was cut short through injury and subsequently he turned to coaching and teaching.​​ At the age of 26 he packed his bags and left the UK shores and embarked on a career in yachting and has never looked back. During Ben’s 17-year yachting career, he has been fortunate enough to travel the ​​world with his highlight being, cruising the Arctic Archipelago of Svalbard and breaking the record for the furthest Northern latitude of a non-ice class yacht.​ ​Ben endeavours to ensure that he and his crew provide a first-class service to his ​​guests with a focus on teamwork and safety.​ ​When Ben is not cruising, he enjoys spending time on the golf course, riding ​​motorcycles, and being in the mountains.

Graham Baines

Cornwall, United Kingdom

Graham grew up in Cornwall in the UK. Graham’s journey began with his cadetship as a deck officer in the Merchant Navy. In 2016, he transitioned to the world of superyachts and found his place aboard M/Y Joy. Graham has steadily risen through the ranks, ultimately achieving the position of Chief Officer. His unwavering commitment to professional growth led him to obtain his Master 3000GT ticket in 2022. Graham has a passion for scuba diving in which he became certified PADI Divemaster. Graham is an avid hiker and runner. He also enjoys navigating the slopes skiing in the winter. Whether exploring new destinations through travel, or embracing the thrill of motorcycling, Graham approaches life with a spirit of adventure.

Stuart Summerell

Devon, United Kingdom

Stuart started his seagoing career in the merchant navy in 2008 as a cadet on 300m container vessels. After qualifying he worked within the commercial sector for several years on various vessels in the North Sea and around the world. Eventually transitioning to yachts, Stuart has worked his way up to Chief Officer on large yachts. Five years ago he started a regenerative farm from scratch, teaching himself farming, building and wood work. He pours all his free time off into his farm where he produces organic vegetables, poultry, pigs, honey and wood for the surrounding area.

Jamie Miller

Perth, Australia

With an international upbringing, Jamie was born in Zimbabwe and from the age of nine, lived between the UK and Australia. Jamie dedicated nine years to a successful professional cricket career, competing at both county and state levels. Additionally,having the honor of representing Australia in the under 19 Cricket Squad. Jamie has recently obtained his OOW Unlimited ticket, and has his sights set on achieving a Master’s ticket in the future. Beyond that, Jamie aspires to broaden his horizons by pursuing qualifications as an Aviation Pilot. In Jamie’s spare time, he enjoys taking part in a round of golf or a game of tennis.

Joshua Fernandez-Oxby

Surrey, United Kingdom

Growing up in the Mexican Caribbean, surrounded by the sea and boats from a young age, Joshua developed a strong comfort and confidence in and around the water. Coming from a family that owned a scuba diving business operating tours throughout the year, Joshua’s early exposure to the maritime environment laid a solid foundation for a career in the industry. Over the course of his career, Joshua has completed seasons in the Mediterranean, Caribbean, and Pacific regions. Beyond his professional endeavors, Joshua is passionate about filmmaking, exploring uncharted destinations, embarking on exhilarating 4×4 off-roading adventures, and savoring moments of relaxation on pristine beaches.

Rudolf Van Wyk

Pretoria, South Africa

Rudolf was raised in Pretoria, South Africa. He originally studied music to become a professional drummer, which he did for 5 years. After his music career, he swapped to personal training and moved to Cape Town to manage a gym. Whilst in Cape Town he transitioned again to becoming a kite surf instructor for yachts and deepened his passion for the water. Since then, Rudy has risen through the ranks to now being our Second officer onboard. In his spare time he enjoys trail running, water sports and exploring the outdoors.

Joshua Schenck

Somerset West, South Africa

Josh grew in Cape Town before moving to Somerset West, which sparked his love for the outdoors and sports. At high school, Josh began racing quad bikes, a passion that eventually evolved into a love for his current sports of running and mountain biking. Josh pursued his higher education at Stellenbosch University, culminating in an honours degree in Sport Science. During Josh’s studies, he gained invaluable experience as a soigneur for professional cycling teams. This hands-on exposure further deepened his understanding of sports and fitness. Upon graduation, Josh embraced the role of head personal trainer at a prominent gym in Stellenbosch. Josh’s adventurous side has lead him into yachting, where he is eager to explore destinations and share his passion for fitness.

Declan Smith

Johannesburg, South Africa

Declan, originally from Johannesburg, South Africa spent his formative years in the outdoors of the Vaal. Declan has a strong passion for fitness, with weightlifting, running and paddle among his favourite activities. In 2020, Declan embarked on a new adventure by entering the yachting industry. He joined the industry to combine his passion for travel with his career aspirations and experiences the world from the deck of JOY.

Originally from Cornwall, England, Adam completed a four-year apprenticeship in bespoke joinery on yachts, working on new builds and refits. In April 2024, he joined JOY as a deckhand. Adam enjoys an active lifestyle, including running, skating, badminton, and paddleboarding. His adventurous spirit has led him to hike various mountains and skydive. With a solid background in craftsmanship and a passion for outdoor activities, Adam brings a unique blend of skills and enthusiasm to his role on JOY.

Josh grew up in the vibrant city of Durban, South Africa, where his passion for sports and the outdoors first took root. Surrounded by stunning coastlines and warm weather, he developed a love for water activities and adventure. During his leisure time, Josh enjoys staying active through fitness training and exploring new ways to challenge himself physically. When traveling to new destinations, he often seeks out opportunities to immerse himself in local culture and outdoor pursuits.

Charlie Henderson

Bristol, United Kingdom

Charlie grew up in Exeter before moving to Bristol. He developed a passion for sports, particularly tennis and running, which later expanded to include surfing. Charlie went on to study business management at university. After completing his degree, Charlie returned to the family marquee business. Charlie’s adventurous spirit led him to take a ski season in Val d’Isère, an unforgettable experience that deepened his love for dynamic environments and outdoor pursuits. This then led him to embark on a career in the yachting industry, opening exciting new opportunities to explore the world and embrace his passion for adventure.

Will grew up in Bristol, UK, but discovered his love for the water on the south coast of Devon and the Isles of Scilly. He has lasting memories of sailing in Greece with friends and family. A lifelong rugby player, Will has also recently developed an interest in golf. Outside of sports, he enjoys working on his 1999 Land Rover Defender with his brother. With a passion for travel and adventure, Will has explored multiple countries, and in 2024, combined his love for the ocean and travel by joining the yachting industry.

Alex grew up in the Herefordshire countryside in the UK. She went on to study Sports Therapy and Massage at college. Alex’s career path has been nothing short of adventurous. Starting as a Massage Therapist on cruise ships for 2 years, she then took to the skies as cabin crew for Virgin Atlantic, where her commitment to service excellence soared. In 2020, she made a seamless transition into the yachting industry, bringing with her a wealth of experience from the hospitality sector. When not at work, Alex finds joy in exploring new destinations, hiking,and baking delicious cakes.

Raised in rural Suffolk, U.K. by a flower farmer, Billie grew up spending the majority of her time outside gardening, horse riding and hiking. Wanting to see more of the world, Billie joined yachting in 2014 with two years high-end service experience and has worked on yachts ranging from 45-80m since then. She has gained experience with all types of service alongside ticking off many bucket list destinations such as Patagonia. She has experience with most aspects of yachting, from busy seasons to sales and refits. In her downtime, she rock climbs, enjoys weekend hikes and various renovation projects on her cottage.

Growing up in the seaside town of Poole sparked Lucy’s love for the water and this inspired her to join the ever exciting yaching industry in 2020. Lucy has always been involved in hospitality and gained a First Class Hons in International Hospitality Management at university. After 3 years as an Event Manager in London, Lucy decided to combine her love for travelling whilst simultaneously learning to elevate her service standards on yachts. A massive foodie at heart who loves socialising, Lucy loves to host dinner parties and cocktail nights with her friends. Outside of hospitality, keeping active is a very important part of Lucy’s life, if she’s not in the gym, you will find her doing pilates outside or going for long walks. Lucy has a warm and bubbly personality and will consistently go above and beyond for both her crew and guests to give them the time of their life on JOY.

Niamh grew up in Birmingham UK, and discovered her love for dance at a young age, which led her to study dance for several years. Later, she moved to London to pursue a criminology degree, intrigued by human behaviour and justice systems. After working in recruitment for several years, she followed her passions by transitioning to the yachting industry. This allure of travel, coupled with the unique lifestyle offered by yachting, proved irresistible. To stay balanced, she enjoys activities like walking, hiking, pilates and yoga which help her stay fit and grounded amid the dynamic nature of yachting life. Exploring new cities and trying new foods brings her immense joy. Her journey proves she looks forward to more adventures and fulfilling moments in the future.

Rachel was born and raised in Co Mayo, Ireland along the scenic Wild Atlantic Way. After finishing her studies in Massage and Beauty therapy, she found her passion for health and wellness after spending some time working in spas on land. She also spent some time travelling and exploring new techniques and cultures. After spending 2 years working on cruise ships Rachel decided to make the transition to the yachting industry. Rachel specialises in advanced skincare, deep tissue massage, Swedish massage and enjoys incorporating a holistic and relaxing experience to all her guests. In her downtime Rachel enjoys running, reading and spending time with family and friends.

Nick has over 20 years of chef experience in restaurants, yachting and the private sector. Nick’s journey began in his hometown of Manchester. His culinary mastery has taken him across the globe, from a prestigious 3 Michelin star restaurant in New York to a charming boutique château in France. Nick’s career highlights also include the opening of a one-hat restaurant in Australia, showcasing his diverse and refined culinary skills.. In between these ventures, Nick has worked in numerous kitchens internationally gaining experience in a multitude of cuisines. Nick enjoys going on adventures with his kids, making sure they have good taste in music, playing sports, and of course discovering amazing food.

Tom Checketts

Leicester, United Kingdom 

Tom grew up in a family of chefs, so the step from a part time kitchen hand to studying pastry in the French alps seemed inevitable. He quickly decided to work in Michelin-starred restaurants around the world, working with Gary Rhodes, Thomas Keller, Daniel Humm, Gordon Ramsay and Eric Chavot. After honing his skills, Tom decided to combine his craft with travelling, living in Australia, France, Spain, Portugal, and New York before settling into the yachting industry.Tom still enjoys to travel, combining it with doing triathlons and of course trying new cuisines, which provides him with inspiration for new dishes.

Patrick O’Toole

Dublin, Ireland

Patrick began his culinary career 7 years ago in Dublin. His culinary adventure took him to Spain for two years, where he immersed himself in modern European cuisine and honed his conversational Spanish. Patrick loves creative cooking and making people happy through his food. Outside of the galley, Patrick is an ardent football fan and supports Arsenal football club. He enjoys road cycling and has taken part in charity races to raise funds for Dublin’s Children’s Charity. Patrick’s skills extend beyond the culinary world. He is a qualified carpenter. Additionally, Patrick is an accomplished photographer with a particular affinity for capturing the beauty of sunsets and the moon.

Andrew Ellaway

Fareham, United Kingdom

Andrew was born and raised in the West Midlands and joined The Royal Navy at 20 years old, where he served 23 years as a Marine Engineer. After completing his training and degree in Engineering Systems, he served on Frigates and Destroyers. Andrew left The Royal Navy as a Warrant Officer 1 First Class. Since leaving Andrew has transitioned to yachting via LNG Cargo ships to obtain his Chief Engineer CoC. Away from work he enjoys the gym, kart racing, playing tennis and spending time with his family.

Martin Jepp

Martin comes from a small town in the southwest of England. With a solid foundation of 17 years of service in the Royal Navy, Martin transitioned into the yachting industry in 2015. Through dedication and hard work, Martin ascended to the role of Chief Engineer, gaining valuable experience on various boats, including overseeing the completion of the Joy. Beyond work, Martin enjoys in fine-tuning his car, exploring new destinations, and cherishing moments with family and friends. Martin has his sights set on an exciting future challenge – trekking to Everest Base Camp with a group friends.

Alex Smith

Following his education, Alex chose to study Marine Engineering at Warsash Maritime College in Southampton. It is there that he gained his CoC and HnD. After studying Alex considered joining the Royal Navy, However, the adventurous life of yachting proved to be his first choice. Alex has worked on board numerous sailing yachts, both in the Mediterranean and Caribbean seas, and has completed multiple Atlantic crossings. Alex plans to stay in the yachting industry long term and has ambitions to become Chief Engineer. Outside of work he enjoys listening to music and playing instruments, especially the guitar.

Carragh Martineau

Carragh grew up in a sailing town in Devon on the South coast of the UK. She started sailing and racing from a young age at her local sailing club and teaching at the sailing school. With salt in her blood and a strong desire to work and live on the ocean, she chose to become a Marine Engineer. She began her career over 10 years ago with the Royal Navy, and since then, Carragh has spent the past 6 years acquiring experience and knowledge on various large yachts. In her spare time, she enjoys kitesurfing, sailing, diving, and traveling.
